Four Star Farms

By Liezl Cosentino

Back in April, Shep wrote a blog post about the importance of brewers creating a sense of place in their beers. A terroir, if you will. Back then, he was writing with Tilted Barn in mind, which is an incredible farm and brewing operation down in Exeter, Rhode Island (read more about it HERE). This time we're back to highlight a different brand that deserves recognition not only for their über tasty brews, but also for the sense of place that is evident in each sip of their product.

Four Star Farms is situated on 250 acres of land on the Connecticut River in Northfield, Massachusetts. Since 1977, the land has been owned and operated by the L’Etoile family, who have over 14 generations of farming in their heritage. It's safe to say they know what they're doing.

What we love about the L’Etoile family is their "steadfast commitment to responsibly balance what is right for the environment with what is viable for [their] farmland and [their] family." Their commitment to balancing what is profitable with what is "right" is something that we think is rare in businesses these days and is worth recognizing.

As a family of beer lovers, they began growing both hops and grain back in 2008. Ten years later, they partnered with brewer Chris Sellars and began brewing using ingredients grown right there on the farm. We're beyond stoked to be offering four awesome styles to the Green Mountain State:

  • Bright Morning - 4% British Style Golden Ale

  • The Northfielder - 4.5% Pilsner Style Lager

  • Field Break - 5% Franco Belgian Saison

  • Dark Oast - 6% Robust Porter

At VT Beer Shepherd, we pride ourselves in the quality of people we do business with. When you buy beer from one of our brands, you know you're buying from genuine people who pour their love and dedication into their craft. We've got an extra good feeling about the folx at Four Star Farms.

Welcome to the Flocc!
