We are very excited to welcome our first South American producer!

Tomás Achával did not envision a life in the wine business when he started working for LVMH 40 years ago. But traveling the world discussing luxury wine brands was a turning point in his life, introducing him to a tightly-knit and exciting community of wine professionals. The more Tomás got to know the winemakers and regions of Argentina, the more he knew he wanted to produce wine there.

Now, many years later, Tomás and his family produce small amounts of wine from old vines in amazing sites across Argentina. We are starting with the Malbec, but stay tuned for more releases!

Malbec is an enigmatic variety— its most traditional (if tradition requires long history) expressions are in France, famously part of some blends in Bordeaux and as the main variety in Cahors- but it has become the calling card of Argentina, with many vineyards getting close to 100 years old! The first plantings were in the late 19th century by a French botanist and it thrives in the high elevation climate of the Andes.

Tomás’s label is Nomade Wines and our release of his 2017 Malbec is exciting for a number of reasons. First is that this wine is not just bulk-produced Malbec riding on the coat-tails of the variety’s fame and sure fact it’s an easy sell on the shelf- Nomade Malbec is produced in much smaller quantity (the 2017 is only 4000 cases) from old vines in the Uco Valley. With a combination of French and American oak, there is a classic blue and black fruit flavor profile with vanilla and mocha. A beautifully made wine at a very reasonable price point for something that is still boutique production.

Look for their beautiful red blends, Petit Verdot, and Torrontès coming soon!
